QUANTUM PROJECT SET TO GO BEFORE CAMERAS IN MARCH
STEPHEN DORFF, FAY MASTERSON AND JOHN CLEESE HEAD CAST
FILM PREMIERES WORLDWIDE MAY 5, 2026 ON WWW.SIGHTSOUND.COM |
Los Angeles, CA-March 2, 2000--SightSound.com (www.sightsound.com) and Metafilmics have announced the final casting and start of production of QUANTUM PROJECT, the first film produced exclusively for global Internet distribution. QUANTUM PROJECT stars Stephen Dorff, Fay Masterson and John Cleese. QUANTUM PROJECT, a SightSound.com and Metafilmics production, marks the directing debut of Eugenio Zanetti, a longtime production designer who won an Oscar® for Art Direction for RESTORATION, starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Sam Neill. Zanetti's other credits include WHAT DREAMS MAY COME (Academy Award nomination), THE HAUNTING, FLATLINERS and THE LAST ACTION HERO, and numerous stage directing credits. Written by David Aaron Cohen (THE DEVIL'S OWN), QUANTUM PROJECT, according to producers Barnet Bain and Stephen Simon, "is the story of two electron-crossed lovers." A combination of live action and extensive CGI and 3-D effects, the $3 million film begins shooting in mid-March in Los Angeles. SightSound.com CEO and President Scott Sander says, "Barnet Bain and Stephen Simon are pioneers in recognizing the distribution possibilities of the Internet. By taking advantage of the Net's speed and efficiency, QUANTUM PROJECT can be released to all the world's Internet users simultaneously." Stephen Dorff came to prominence playing "Fifth Beatle" Stuart Sutcliffe in 1993's BACKBEAT. He has since made dozens of film appearances, most recently starring in BLADE (opposite Wesley Snipes) and EARTHLY POSSESSIONS (with Susan Sarandon). He recently completed filming John Waters' latest project, CECIL B. DEMENTED, opposite Melanie Griffith. Fay Masterson's credits include EYES WIDE SHUT, THE QUICK AND THE DEAD and MAN WITHOUT A FACE. John Cleese has starred in nearly two dozen films, notably A FISH CALLED WANDA, for which he was nominated for both a Golden Globe and Academy Award, and, most recently, THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH. "We are excited that Stephen, Fay and John and the entire production cast and crew have joined us in making movie history," offers Sander. QUANTUM PROJECT is slated exclusively for download sale only, and will premiere at www.sightsound.com at 12:01 AM EDT, Friday, May 5, 2000. "It is an exciting challenge and a privilege to be the first to jump into this space," said Barnet Bain. Metafilmics was formed in 1995 to develop and produce projects that entertain, empower and inspire by portraying characters as both human and spiritual beings. Metafilmics' feature production debut, 1998's WHAT DREAMS MAY COME, grossed over $100 million in world wide box office, and was nominated for two and won one Academy Award, for Best Visual Effects. The film won several other awards, including a Blockbuster Entertainment Award (for favorite Supporting Actor) a Golden Satellite Award (for Visual Effects), an NAACP Image Award (for Supporting Actor) and a production design award from the Society of Motion Picture and Television Art Directors. Metafilmics projects in development include a motion picture based on Neale Donald Walsch's best-selling Conversations with God books. SightSound.com continues to make Internet history. First in 1995 by selling the first music online; then in 1999, renting the first full-length movie online and in summer of 2000, releasing the first Internet feature film. SightSound.com is a five-year-old Internet company based in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, that distributes movies and music online in an unprecedented, cutting-edge format. It began when engineer Arthur Hair developed a technology to eliminate the physical distribution of music and video by instead delivering digital audio and video files over a network like the Internet. This innovation was the basis of a portfolio of patents and the founding of SightSound.com in 1995 by Hair and Sander. < -- back to PRESS page |
